PET PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS

I love painting pet portraits!

My life is certainly better thanks to the addition of my cats - Tim Riggins and Leslie Knope - and my dachshund, Petey. If you are an animal person, you are my people (and I am yours!).

COMMISSIONING A PET PORTRAIT: HOW IT WORKS

At the core of all my work is a sense of wonder and enchantment. This includes my approach to pet portraits. While capturing an accurate likeness of your animals is important, my work stands out because of the sense of emotion and magic that I infuse into my work. I aim to capture the energy of your pet through a colorful, charming original painting.

First, I need reference photos.

I like having 5-10 pics of your pet(s) to work from. Clear photos with good lighting are best, along with photos that showcase your pets’ personality - a specific pose, favorite sleep spot, iconic head tilt - that sort of thing.

I love to incorporate any colors and elements that are meaningful to you and your pet.

For example, one pet portrait I did was for a person who was a huge Yankees fan so the background is blue and white pinstripes.

Based on the photos you send and your input, I'll sketch out 1-2 compositions for the painting. I'll send those to you for feedback and approval. Once the sketch is approved, I'll move to canvas and start the painting!

Once I've finished the painting, I send unedited photos and video of it to you for approval. Once it has your thumbs up, I let it dry; then varnish with a non-toxic varnish; wire the back so it's ready for a wall, and it's ready to go. The whole process takes about 6-12 weeks, depending on my current workload. If the painting is a gift and needs to be delivered by a specific date, let me know.

I take 50% payment up front, then the remaining 50% plus shipping* once the final piece is approved. I ship everything insured and use a great shipping company that has the best rates.
